Revolver var titelen på The Beatles‘ syvende studio-album (1966), der vi blant annet finner Eleanor Rigby – som skiller seg markant ut fra de fleste andre Beatles-låter, både i tekst og musikk. Her er ikke noe slagverk, ingen gitarer, og akkompagnementet er ved en dobbelt strykekvartett, arrangert av George Martin (1926-2016), som ofte kalles Den femte Beatle. Tekstens emne, ensomme mennesker, skiller seg avgjort en del fra mesteparten av The Beatles’ låter.

I 1981 tilbød Tommy Steele bystyret i Liverpool  å lage en skulptur som en hyllest til The Beatles – for et honorar av tre pence. Tilbudet ble akseptert, £4,000 for materiale og støping ble bevilget, og den 3. desember 1982 ble statuen avduket.

På St.Peter’s Churchyard i Woolton, Liverpool, finner vi en grav for en Eleanor Rigby (1895-1939). Hvor vidt dette inspirerte tekstforfatteren Paul McCartney er usikkert, selv har han benektet det. I videoen Free as a Bird dukker det mot slutten opp en gravstein med navnet Eleanor Rigby. Men den er nok oppdiktet, på den autentiske familiegraven finner vi flere navn.
