EU vil inden år 2020 indsætte 10.000 ekstra grænsevagter for at bekæmpe illegal migration, kundgjorde EU-kommissionens præsident Jean-Claude Juncker under den årlige tale om unionens tilstand.

BBC melder:

He called for more solidarity, rather than «ad-hoc solutions» for people on migrant ships.

He also proposed a new Africa-Europe alliance, based on co-operation rather than charity, leading to a continent-to-continent free trade agreement.

Men Juncker er ikke modstander af migration som sådan. Tvært imod:

He stressed a need for legal routes for migration into Europe. «We need skilled migrants,» he said.

Juncker tog også til orde for mere centralisme i unionen:

In his speech, Jean Claude Juncker also made a notably controversial proposal to abolish EU member countries’ vetoes on certain tax and foreign policy issues. This is likely to be pounced on by critics of the EU who accuse it of being an undemocratic institution.

Kommissionspræsidenten sendte også nogle stikpiller med slet skjult adresse til den tøjlesløse overnationalismes modstandere:

«We should reject the kind of exaggerated nationalism that projects hate and destroys all in its path. The kind of nationalism that points the finger at others instead of searching for ways to better live together.»

Samme dag valgte overnationalismen imidlertid at rette en pegefinger mod Ungarn, ved at indlede en straffeprocedure mod landet.
